Ummm, I’m Starting To Get The Impression That Wrestling Is Fake.

February 3, 2011

Why do they script the white guys to do “The Worm”? That’s borderline racist right there. “The Worm” has become the official break dance move for white guys. I think a white guy invented it actually. This video is half of the 10% of the time that wrestling is awesome and not retarded. The other half of that 10% is The Birdman Koko B. Ware and his bird Frankie.

My 2011 NBA All Star Lineup.

January 28, 2011

For posterities sake, here’s how I voted

Western All Stars:

Blake Griffin: C’mon, he’s arguably the most exciting player in the league. He’s the closest thing we have to a Vince Carter as far as dunking ability goes. Rookie of the year without a doubt.

Kevin Durant: He’s the league leading scorer. He’s fun to watch, he’s on a great team, he’s humble. He gets my vote.

Kobe Bryant: Ummm…it’s Kobe Bryant. Like Nas was to Rakim, he’s the 2nd coming of Jordan. But unlike Nas, Kobe not only has nearly caught up(stat wise) to his Airness but has a chance at surpassing him.

Eric Gordon: Gordon has had a fantastic year. I should know as he’s a star on my Fantasy Team so I know how he kills it nearly every night. Sadly for my Clips(and my Fantasy Team) he’ll be out for 3 weeks to an injury. But I still had to rep for my boy.

Emeka Okafor: I’m biased, he’s on my Fantasy Team. I could have picked Kaman but I think i’ve voted for enough Clippers. And plus, he’s injured anyway. So I opted for Okafor.

Eastern All Stars:

LeBron James: Aside from Blake, LeBron is the most exciting player to watch in the game. I hate the Heat but I still love LeBron.

Amare Stoudamire: He’s played amazing for The Knicks and brought them back to prominence. I was hoping that it was gonna be King James to do this but that obviously wasn’t in the cards. I didn’t expect him to take the Knicks this far so I have to give him credit.

Rajon Rondo: I admit I have a soft spot for assist leaders. But besides that Rondo has transformed his game drastically to what it was in the past and to make that transition seem as effortless as he does, deserves my vote. Oh and he’s the reason I never lose in assists in my Fantasy league.

Derrick Rose: He’s what Dwayne Wade was when he first came into the league. This is his best year yet and it seems like he’s only getting better. If you want a scoring point guard, there’s no one better.

Shaquille O’Neal: This is a Lifetime Achievement Award by me. I know I’m not suppose to vote on sentimentality but performance but I’m sorry, this might be the last time we see the ever entertaining Shaquille O’Neal in an All Star Game.

Donald Sterling, amend your decades of idiocy and LOCK THESE TWO UP. Give them both contracts they deserve. You owe it to the very few diehard Clipper fans out there, myself included.

Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy.

January 22, 2011

I’ve just recently started to really like the commentary of Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy over on ESPN. I appreciate Van Gundy’s self deprecating brand of humor and I respect Jackson keeping Van Gundy in check, somewhat. I remember watching when Van Gundy assistant coached Mark Jackson and the rest of the New York Knicks throughout the 90′s. Who would’ve thought they would be great on air personalities nearly 20 years later?

If I had my way, I would have pre game, halftime and post game with EJ, Kenny Smith and Charles, and have Marv Albert, Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy commentating the actual game. That would be amazing. Have this crew cover the 2011 NBA Finals between the Blake Griffin led LA Clippers against the Unholy Trinity of Bron, Wade and Bosh of the Miami Heat where the Clippers win in 7. Oh every game goes to overtime by the way.

*sigh* A man can dream.

Happy Holidays!

December 25, 2010

This was my Christmas song of last year for a myriad of reasons but despite all of that, I still and always will love this song. C’mon, Wham + Christmas = A win for all of the world.

I nominate this song for the “A Christmas song most people haven’t heard but when they hear it for the first time, they fall in love with it.” award.

Ugh, this song is so good it hurts. So good I almost wish it wasn’t a Christmas song. So I don’t seem weird listening to this song heavy in like the middle of July or something.

I remember taping this song off of the radio.(102.5 to be specific) This song is very much a product of it’s time and hasn’t aged all that well but I still like it. R.I.P. Left Eye.

Can we burn all recordings of “This Christmas” other than the Donny Hathaway version, please? Thanks.

Oh and my nephew has been going through some rough chemo therapy and apparently it hasn’t been going so well. He’s been holed up at the hospital for a week and went home just yesterday on Christmas eve. I got a text from my cousin informing me that he’s going to be on the local news this very Christmas morning. So here’s to him. And to my friends and family and anyone who has ever visited this site, have a safe and happy holidays.

Now leave me alone while I spend the day watching NBA Basketball. I should get some sleep though as I’ve been up all night. Oh and for what its worth, I have Chicago, Orlando, LA, OKC and Golden State all winning today. Let’s hope I can stay awake to watch them all.

Reformed Sneaker Heads.

December 23, 2010

In my early to mid 20′s I was a bit of a sneaker collector. I had amassed about 70 pairs, more than half of them unworn. My friend Von was also a collector and so it was not uncommon to find us talking for hours about shoes. What our favorites were, what shoes we remembered from out past, what new pairs were coming out and which ones we would actually line up for. Now Von and I have lined up countless times for various early morning releases. He was my kicks partner in crime, my Nike war buddy. If a new pair of retro Jordans were coming out, we were there. No matter how early we had to wake up, no matter what the weather was like, no matter how far we had to drive. All of it, simply for a chance to get a pair of sneakers. Nearly 1/3 of the time, we would end up empty handed, but that’s the nature of the beast.

About a week ago, a pair of reformed sneaker collectors(now in our 30′s) had gotten together for dinner and reminisced about our days of sneaker hunting. We looked back and laughed, shaking our heads at our former selves and remorseful on how much money we spent in those days. In retrospect, it’s the memories from that era that I look at fondly instead of the actual shoes I bought.

He shot me a text message a few days ago about the then upcoming release of the Cool Gray Air Jordan XI’s which came out earlier today to much fanfare and I thought I’d share it.

Well, today’s off to a shitty start. Only player in NBA history to have more blocks than points. Rest in peace.
