The Art of G.O.O.D. Fridays

November 14, 2010

Starting some weeks ago, Kanye announced G.O.O.D. Fridays in which he released a new song available for download every friday until Christmas. I loved the cover art for the singles so much I’ve compiled them here. I’ll continue to add upcoming artwork to this post as they come out. I know it isn’t New Years yet but I’m gonna make an early resolution for 2011 and that is try to go five posts without having one be about Kanye West.(Right now it’s tough as his album is coming out in two weeks you see)

“Horn Synth” by Lupe Fiasco+Pharrell

May 6, 2010

With the first music related post I’ve written in 8 months I feel it’s only appropriate that it is one that involved Lupe and Pharrell Williams. Here we have a snippet of a song called “Horn Synth” which may or may not be from Lu’s upcoming album Lasers. Pharrell showing he can speed up the tempo and still preserve that signature Neptunes sound and Lu also demonstrating the ability to speed up his flow yet still remain coherent which many rappers fail to do.

But as fresh as I think this song is, Lupe still hasn’t done enough to make up for “Solar Midnight”, the song he did for that one Twilight movie. Fuck that noise, I regret even bringing it up. You know what? Forget I ever mentioned it. I will never speak of it by name again. Lupe, Twilight…never happened. Working with Chad & Pharrell is a step in the right direction Lu. Let’s stay on path. I’m gonna leave on that note and attempt to isolate the brain cells responsible for the memory of “the-song-that-will-not-be-named” and somehow try to permanently erase them from my brain.

I’m Good by Clipse Feat. Pharrell (Video)

August 9, 2009

(“I’m looking good.”)I give alot of shit to rappers that(“I’m looking good.”) talk about how rich they are(“I’m looking good.”) but whenever the song in question(“I’m looking good.”) is produced by The Neptunes, (“Yeah!”)I tend to give it a pass. (“Yeah!”)I mean it’s a fucking Pharrell beat. (“Yeah.”)What else are you gonna rhyme about? (“Yeah.”)

Pharrell, shut up! I’m trying to write here.

“I’m looking good…”

*sigh*

Work That

January 23, 2009

I know I’m a tad late on this but I can’t just not talk about it. So what’s the final verdict? I think it’s absolutely horrible. The beat is lame, the chorus is as plain as it gets and I despise Chris Brown so there’s yet another point deducted. The only saving grace I guess, is the bouncing asses. I’ll give it that at least. Overall, still a crappy song.

I’ll probably still get the album though.

Why the fuck is Verbal wearing a Viking helmut? Is that the new new? Bape Viking Helmuts?

Yes

Yes

Let me get this out of the way. I don’t like Lil’ Wayne. Never have, never will. That doesn’t mean I think he’s a horrible emcee or that I can’t enjoy a song he happens to be on. His lyrics can be really clever and delivery impressive at times. But for the most part, rap that originates from the south I usually dismiss without a second thought. Outkast and Goodie Mob being a few exceptions.

All of that aside, I think Weezy sounds AMAZING(yeah that’s right, I used all caps) over this completely disgusting Pharrell beat. Add that to the way they trade verses back and fourth and Pharrell with a touch of auto tune. Sold. Coming from me, this will sound crazy but I think this will end up being one of my Top 10 Hip Hop Songs of 2009.

Everybody Nose Remix Video by CRS

August 8, 2008

The first unofficial Child Rebel Soldier video? “Everybody Nose(Remix)” video directed by Hype Williams. I like the 8-bit retro video game theme with the Donkey Kong and Galaga backgrounds. Lu and Pusha both have their lyrical prowess on display here while Ye and Pharrell simply overwhelm the track by their sheer egotistical presence. Check out the cameo by Nigo, who is the unofficial silent 4th member of CRS…..kidding.

I want that Trilly And Truly crewneck.

Everybody Nose Video

May 16, 2008

I thought the Nose character(designs courtesy of KAWS) would play a more prominent role in the video. Chad with wig = hilarity and Lindsay Lohan repping herself with the coked out bitch cameo. Damn, I love the breakdown on this song. Has that undeniable N.E.R.D. sound. Since I don’t go to clubs, I have no idea how accurate this video is. Is there really that many girls at clubs doing lines in the restroom? Yet another reason for me to not go clubbing.

Here’s a towel, wipe your face.

Everybody Nose Remix

May 13, 2008

I wonder who was on production duties on this remix? I can’t pinpoint it. Doesn’t sound like Ye, I can hear traces of Timbo and The Neptunes though. I don’t know. I like this remix just because I’m fiending for anything CRS related. Pusha T’s flow is very fresh.

Warp April 2008

April 26, 2008

Another one of my Kinokuniya pick ups, last months issue of Warp which features Nigo, Pharrell and the Boyz on the cover. Warp seems to be more of a mixture of fashion and music whereas Street Jack is straight fashion. The cover is nice and glossy and I particularly like the layouts and pictures throughout the issue. I really like the black and white two page spread of Nigo and P.

Some other things to note: Hiroshi Fujiwara, Big-O, some new Phenomenon and W-Taps pieces are also featured in the mag.
