Dark Souls Wants To Eat Your Children.

February 5, 2011

That’s right mother fucker! Demon’s Souls “sequel” is coming for that ass and it’s coming to use your spine as dental floss. The spiritual sequel is called Dark Souls and this time, From Software is bringing it to the PS3 as well as the 360. So now even more people can experience the video game that’s the closest thing to self mutilation I can think of. All of you so called “hardcore” gamers who play nothing but Call of Duty, GTA and Madden need to understand what the word “hardcore” truly means . Dark Souls wants nothing more than to harm you and everyone you hold dear. It wants to batter you physically and rape you mentally.

The 60+ hours I spent on Demon’s Souls was a lesson in Stockholm Syndrome. My constant deaths were all my fault. After all, the game was just being itself. The game did no wrong. It was just being the abusive step-child smacking, wife beater wearing game it is. When I died it was all my fault. Yes, all…my…fault. *nervously looks around*

NO DON’T HIT ME! I’M SORRY! I’M SORRY! PLEASE, NO! I’LL REMEMBER NEXT TIME I PROMISE!

*cowers into fetal position*

PSP2: Electric Bugal…okay, okay I won’t say it.

January 28, 2011

If you give me a new Hot Shots Golf and Monster Hunter 4 Portable with online co-op(not just local co-op) on release day I will go line up right now. RIGHT…NOW.

I remember…

July 1, 2010

Rant start.

I remember a time when shooters were games like Gradius and R-Type.
I remember a time when there were no bald, burly space marines.
I remember not giving a shit about 3D in games. Oh wait, I still don’t give a shit about 3D in games.
I remember (and loved) when GTA was in 2D.
I remember a time when the east ruled.
I remember when JRPG’s were referred to as just RPG’s.
I remember when Final Fantasy games had towns in them.
I remember when the people who imported their games at a premium price and learned another language to read the dialogue text on the screen in an RPG were known as “hardcore gamers”, and not people who simply play Madden and FPS.
I remember a time before DJ Hero when there was just Beat Mania.
I remember a time before Rock Band/Guitar Hero when there was just Un Jammer Lammy.
I remember a time before Def Jam Rapstar when there was just PaRappa The Rapper.
I remember as a kid I thought it would be cool to control games with nothing but my body.
I remember being an idiot when I was a kid.
I remember when games came out faster due to developers not being forced to add online multiplayer to a game that has no reason to have it in the first place.
I remember when you challenged someone to a game, you stood right next to them so that when you called someone a “faggot”, you could and would get smacked in the face.
I remember when certain Snes cartridges cost $60-$80 when they came out.($60 games aren’t a new thing, “stop bitching” is what I’m saying.)
I remember when video game magazines mattered.
I remember when magazines mattered.
I remember when we played games with a controller.
I remember when I wasn’t a bitter old man.

Can it be that it was all so simple then?

Rant over.

Warning! A Huge Podcast Is Approaching Fast

May 2, 2010

I am a big podcast nerd. I subscribe to 20+ podcasts and listen to them throughout the week. A majority of them are video game related podcasts which is ironic since I don’t play as many video games as I once use to. Oddly enough I still manage to follow everything going on in the scene. The one thing that I find sorely missing is in-depth coverage of Japanese imports. With the attention shifting more and more to western developed games, it feels like Japanese centric games are taking a back seat and the lack of coverage on them is proof of this.

Thankfully, former editors of the now defunct Play magazine Nick Des Barres aka “Nick Rox”, Casey Loe and Eric Patterson aka “Shidoshi” have a podcast that is strictly about import Japanese gaming entitled “Warning! A huge Podcast Is Approaching Fast” What’s great is that their prologue episode(#0) they talk about their history in the industry working for both Gamefan and Play magazines. Their little spat with EGM and Nick Rox goes into his frame counting prowess and how he got the legendary nickname “Blue Shadows”. In their official first episode they get into a more traditional routine and delve into 2 hours of straight import game talk. If you have any interest in the fading Japanese gaming scene, this podcast is for you.

Also keep an eye out for 8-4‘s podcast helmed by former EGM editors Mark Macdonald and John Riccardi which will also cover primarily Japanese games. Until then.

Street Fighter IV: The Gangs All Here

February 8, 2008

Famitsu has posted up a whole bunch of pictures from the new Street Fighter IV which shows the cast of characters so far. Who’s in? Well, the gangs pretty much all here. The original roster plus one to be exact and I’m gonna go ahead and guess the bosses from II are gonna be present with a few more new characters to keep it fresh. The graphic style is sort of growing on me I guess, the characters seem so bulky and massive though. From that it leads one to think this game is gonna be slow. I’ve seen the video and it seems fast enough but I still can’t shake that feeling.

How bad ass would it be if Mike, Lee, Retsu, Geki and Joe were playable in IV? Who are these guys you ask? These are all characters that were in the very first Street Fighter and have yet to make another appearance in the franchise.

Nintendo DS Famicom Adapter

November 28, 2007

DS Famicom

Being able to play Japanese Famicom games on my DS would be the greatest thing to ever happen to the DS. Sure it triples the girth and weight of the portable gaming machine but being able to play Seiken Densetsu 3 where ever I want is so worth it. This Famicom adapter for the Nintendo DS has a TV out so you can play it straight on your TV which in essence makes it basically a full blown Famicom. It looks like from the picture that the adapter only fits the DS Lite model, which means I would have to upgrade from my older, larger first generation DS. I hope this thing gets good reviews and is not too expensive(I wouldn’t think it would be) and I hope I can buy it through Playasia or something. All I know is I want one. Comes out in Japan next month. Via DS Fanboy

For the record I think that the Super Famicom has THE BEST game library of any console.

It’s Coming: Street Fighter IV!

October 17, 2007

SF

It’s finally coming! I’m literally on the verge of tears right now. Forget Bionic Commando, I don’t care about Lost Planet or Dead Rising. All I care about is a new Street Fighter and NOT a Vs. game with SNK or comic book characters either, but a direct sequel in the original Street Fighter series.

I’m really curious to find out what the new fighting system will be like. One part of me wants it to be something completely fresh and new but another part of me would like it to be based on the “Parry System” of Street Fighter III. The more I think about it I don’t think there can be another choice really. I feel the SF series should continue using the Parry System. The parry is what separates the men from the boys. It’s in my opinion, the biggest jump in Street Fighter gameplay evolution since the series added a “II” behind it’s name. The Parry System makes for the most exciting 1 on 1 matches. To use it successfully is a very impressive feat but watching a player use it masterfully is a sight to behold.

I’m sure it will be a totally new, revamped gameplay system so we’ll just have to wait and see. Nevertheless, it’s finally coming. 10 years in the making. The 2D fighting gaming gods have answered our collective prayers and all I can say is thank you. Thank you Capcom.

Now give me a next gen “2DStrider game.

Wii + Ping Pong = Fuck Yes!

October 12, 2007

I think the title says it all really. Got hip to this through Kotaku. If you can read Japanese, please comment with a translation of this site. Inform us of anything that translates along the lines of this game being released in the U.S. as soon as humanly possible.

All I Want From Capcom

October 11, 2007

According to Kotaku, Capcom is suppose to hold a press event in a few days and they are suppose to announce something big. Ever since I read that article, i’ve been fantasizing of all the cool things this “big” announcement could possibly be. Maybe a next-gen Trojan game? How about Puzzle Fighter DS? DC Vs. Capcom fighter? I would give all the toes on my left foot for a PS3 Strider game. Of all these fantasies that passed through my mind, I came to the realization that there is only one thing I really want from them. One thing i’ve been waiting for for a looooong time. So I will ask, no beg Capcom to give me what I want. Please Capcom, for the love of any and everything holy, give me Street Fighter IV. Just give me Street Fighter IV.

MGS4:GotP Trailer TGS07

September 21, 2007

^Acronyms aplenty!

Latest trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4. Crazy shit right here. If there is one game that pushes me to finally buying a PS3, it’s this. Despite what he says, I pray everyday to the “gaming gods” that this won’t be Hideo Kojima’s last Metal Gear Solid game.
