Oh and here’s Jay’s version “Dear Summer”. It actually preceded Lu’s version but for some stupid reason, I can’t get the file to play so I’m linking to it.

Cold Pillow by Theophilus London

August 5, 2009

“Cold Pillow” off of Theophilus London’s This Charming Mixtape. I’ve been listening to this song nonstop for the past couple of days. This would easily be one of the best songs to come out of 2009 if it wasn’t for the fact that it came out last year. I was late to the party and found out about it just a few days ago. I feel shamed. Easily the most notable thing about this track is that it’s produced by Ruckazoid aka Ricci Rucker of Ned Hoddings/Gunkhole fame. Oh and whose Asisphonics board I use to moderate with an iron fist way back in the day. Just sayin. Enough of the nerdiness, let’s get to the song.

Magnetic Arts By Mos Def + DJ Honda

July 27, 2009

“Travelin Man” by Mos Def and DJ Honda single handedly changed the course of my musical roadmap. Back in 97′, this was my first real introduction to underground/independent Hip Hop. If not for this very song, I’d probably be in the club wearing my white T-Skirt, popping my collar, getting Hyphy, doing The Soldier Boy(Yeah, I know this reference is played out already) with the rest of mainstream America and not the elitist music snob you have before you typing this. And for this, I thank you Mos Def and I thank you DJ Honda. From the bottom of my heart.

Ahhhhh, listening to this reminds me of the glory days of Rawkus.

The hottest shit out right now. I already know it will be one of the better albums I hear this year. I’ve been listening to it non stop since I got it. Fucking bananas. Take a little Kelis, add some M.I.A. and then throw in a bit of Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and then multiply it by 4 and you’ll get a better idea of who Santogold is.

Rumblfish Muxtape Vol. 1: We The Worst

May 1, 2008

Really digging this new site Muxtape. Got hip to this by a post on Soul SIdes(one of my fav blogs btw). It’s a simple site that allows you to create a mixtape and through your browser allow people to listen to it at their leisure. Future Muxtapes I plan on compiling will have more of a theme to them. This first one is to just test the waters and upload some of the songs I’ve been listening to as of late. Enjoy.
