Anti “Azn” Movement: Jeff Staple.

January 27, 2011

A Love Supreme Dreaming supports progressive asians, not superficial “Azn’s”. Far East Movement this is not, kids.

Talking about the beginnings of Staple, getting hustled on the streets of NY and where Darrin Hudson is at now:

On street wear trends and its eventual evolution away from “mens wear” and why so many asians are into street wear:

On Hip Hop’s influence, not knowing the names of Roots songs and being a backpacker for life:

On not drinking since 1993, touring with Nas and how “image” is part of the “business”:

Latest Reed Pages/Erykah Badu Cover.

January 20, 2011

Jeff Staple posted a picture on his Twitter of the cover of the latest issue of Reed Pages. The issues cover story is on Erykah Badu who Jeff spent a few days on tour with. Very happy to see a new issue is being made as I absolutely loved the first one.

When the magazine first debuted, it was suppose to be a quarterly and I heavily considered getting a subscription but opted not to because I didn’t think they would publish them on a timely matter. It seems I was right as the last issue came out in the middle of 2009. That’s not a knock against them as I understand how difficult it is to produce a magazine in a timely manner, especially for Jeff and Staple Design guys who have a lot on their plate as it is.

That said, I’m glad to know they are grinding out another one. Can’t wait for the issue to come out. Long live print!

Jeff Staple: The Accident

May 14, 2010

This is one of my favorite videos. Despite not owning many Staple Design shirts(I have a few but most unfortunately run too big for my liking) they remain one of my favorite brands. Here Jeff Staple tells his story from the company’s humble beginnings to how it came to be the creative force it is today.

He speaks on everything from designing covers for Rawkus Records in the late 90’s, the Pigeon Dunk, collaborating with Hiroshi Fujiwara on iDiom, and his retail store Reed Space. It’s a lengthy video but well worth the time as far as I’m concerned. Absolutely inspiring.

Staple x Mayer

May 8, 2009

I like John Mayer. I like Staple Design. Nice reworking of the old Bayer logo. Staple is one of my favorite clothing brands and when they collaborate with someone I am personally a fan of, I’m all for it. I’m gonna be super self referential here but it seems I’ve blogged about John Mayer more times than I realized. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but I just find it a tad surprising. Well, let’s add another blog entry to that list shall we?

Oh and just in case you’re wondering, I’m not an affluent white suburban female college student in her mid-twenties.

The Standing Eight(March ’09)

March 28, 2009

8. Mother 3: Gameboy Advance emulator with downloadable English translation provided by Starmen.net. It doesn’t get any geekier than this.
7. Jesus Phone 3.0: MMS, check. Copy & Paste, check. Landscape keyboard, check. Video recording mmm…..possibly. Now just give me voice dialing, GPS turn by turn directions and we straight.
6. Connect, Politic, Ditto: Getting in touch with old friends is a good thing.
5. Tuna Barbecue from Mikuni: If you could eat something that was equivalent to heaven on earth, this would be it.
4. Head Porter Karabiners: If they made a Porter reusable grocery tote bag, I’d pay whatever it cost to get one. Oh wait, they did make one.
3. Positive, Social, Contagion: New Staple Spring/Summer 09 line is out!
2. Where The Wild Things Are: My second most anticipated movie of 2009.(It only falls short to Inglorious Basterds) Spike Jonze is the only one who could do this movie in my eyes. Watch the amazing trailer.
1. Love The World>I.R.I.N.A.: Officially this is my favorite song at the current moment but secretly, on the low-low, it’s really this.

Have A Nice Day
