A Hundred Happy Birthdays

July 27, 2008

The Hundreds celebrate their 5th anniversary today and to kick things off, a nice home page re(tro)design, some downloadable goods such as icons, wallpapers, Myspace layouts and a message board, which doesn’t seem to be up just yet…..wait, I’m getting deja vu here.

Can’t wait for the next line to come out. Happy 5th birthday.

Ante Up(Bert & Ernie Edition)

July 25, 2008

Bert and Ernie have never been so gangsta. Let’s hope they never deliberately attempt commercial success by signing with Roc-A-Fella and G-Unit and then fade into total and complete obscurity.

Madvillain In A Box

July 24, 2008

Fuck, I want this. One of my favorite Hip Hop albums of all time, Madvillainy by MF DOOM and Madlib came together so nicely that they had to come out with this special edition box set for the sequel strictly for the heads. This is what the box comes with: a CD, a 7″, a Cassette Tape, a t-shirt and a comic book all in a nice silver line wrapped box. The box is sold exclusively through Stones Throw and goes for about $120 but well worth it if you’re a fan. Get it here.

If I Could Go Back In Time…

July 24, 2008

If I could go back in time, I would keep reliving the joyous moment a few weeks back when I found out that Chrono Trigger was coming to the Nintendo DS. Well, that or go back to when the actual “Dream Team” came up with the idea for this legendary game and somehow make it so that I was known as the one who named it or some shit like that.

I’m afraid though that during one of my many visits back, I would fuck something up and accidentally create a time paradox which would disrupt the space/time continuum and all existence would then cease to exist. Then sadly along with all of humanity non existent, we wouldn’t have Chrono Trigger for the DS, and that would be bad.

“Hey Frog, let’s take it back, waaaaay back. Back into time.”

Live Action Cowboy Bebop? Survey Says: FUCK NO!

July 23, 2008

Ugh. Cowboy Bebop live action movie?! What a fucking huge kick in the dick. I can’t believe this shit. Okay maybe I can, I mean wasn’t Eva suppose to have a live action adaptation? Ugh, whatever. Bebop with no Shinichiro Watanabe? No Yoko Kanno? No thanks.

The live action movie will look similar to this.

The Last Emporer

July 21, 2008

Fedor Emelianenko is unrivaled. Oh and water is wet, fire is hot and the sky is blue. The greatest pound for pound(sorry Silva, Penn and GSP) heavyweight fighter MMA has ever seen. Couture, Arlovski and Barnett are all that’s left. Their fate will all be the same.

Releasing My Persona

July 21, 2008

With the announcement of Persona 4’s North American release date(12/9/08), it has me contemplating if I should first tackle P3: FES before I dive into this next chapter in the series. I’ve spent so much time going back and fourth whether or not to play it that it’s gotten to the point where maybe I need to just pony up and track down a copy to see if it’s worthy of my time. Or maybe not.

The high school simulator is what’s drawing me most to this game. Cause really, in this day in age that’s what games need more of, some good ol’ relationship development mechanics! To be honest if it wasn’t for this aspect of gameplay(and the art design), I wouldn’t be too interested in this title. I’d have passed it off as another 60+ hour grind fest. Maybe I need to just learn Japanese and play me some Tokimeki Memorial for some high school simulating goodness.

Hmmm, spending time cultivating electronic relationships rather than keep up actual ones based in reality. There’s something wrong about that. On second thought, I think I’ll pass on P4.

What The Girl?

July 20, 2008

The first of the Kiks Tyo and Yuko Ishida tees have become available for pre-order. You can get em here. Yup…..well, there really isn’t much to say, sooooooo let’s just stare at the pretty pictures.

Ooooooh…

Ahhhhh…

She’s definitely not ugly…

Oh and for the record, I absolutely hate the shoes Yuko is holding. I hate all Frankenstein shoes for that matter, especially the unholy abominations that are the Spizikes. It’s like Nike is running out of ideas so they deciede to meld shoes together in one ugly lump.

Hoshino AKitty Tee

July 20, 2008

It’s finally here. Is this the last Kiks Tyo + Aki Hoshino collab? If it is, what a great way to go out. Pull harder little doggy, pull harder! Pull with all your might! Get your pre-order in while you can. I got mine.

Metroidvania

July 19, 2008

“Metroidvania” is a term I feel more gamers should be aware of. Here Jeremy Parish, Scott Sharkey and Chris Kohler of 1up and Retronauts fame discuss a sub genre that is pretty much obsolete in our current state of gaming. “Metroidvania” is basically a free roaming, back tracking 2D game where your exploration relied on obtaining certain items which allowed you to continue to unlock and explore new areas. What’s funny is that the first Castlevania had definite level divisions with no back tracking whatsoever. That’s easily overlooked considering Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is probably THE pinnacle of all 2D “Metroidvania” games. It’s the gold standard in which all other games in this odd sub genre are compared to.

A totally interesting yet completely hilarious podcast. It made me realize how important and revolutionary both the Metroid and Castlevania series are and have a new found appreciation for them.

You know, I kinda like the term “Castleroid”.
